I inherited ADD from my Mother. Instead of taking drugs for this condition, we’ve learned to deal with it the old fashioned way: sucking it up.
One of the ways I deal, is I focus on crossing tasks off my Things You Need To Do Today list. I’m constantly adding and subtracting to the list with my colorful Sharpies. My legal pad sometimes gets a bit cluttered, but it’s effective — I get stuff done.
But sometimes things get a little mysterious, and I fall off the routine wagon…like today, for instance. I just noticed the word “Detroit” scribbled on a napkin on my desk. I have no idea what this means. I’ve never been to Detroit, plan on going to Detroit, or am doing anything work-related in, or around Detroit.
And now, because of my ADD, I am so incredibly distracted by Detroit that I can’t focus on leaving work.
